Thinking of making bunting for nursery for new baby - would it be sufficient to cut out triangles & zigzag stitch round them (rather than hemming) and then just double over a piece of ribbon or binding to string them from?

Yes that would work. But if you create a loop on one side with your stitch you can thread them on (or maybe you mean that? sorry).

No I meant then run a seam all the way down the binding, catching the triangles as I went.

BUT if I did it your way I could swap different triangles in... how poncey would seasonal bunting be????

in prima this month it tells you how to make bunting

I did it your way, VG - my first sewing project!

Was v happy with the results, now hanging in dd's bedroom...it's just a nice feeling to create something yoursef!

I expect Bunty would buy hers from Cath Kidston anyway. I made mine from dd's old pants - the big ones that Gap do with their girls dresses for the under 5's!

Would suggest putting a loop on the ribbon every so often so they're easier to hang. But what you describe sounds brilliant.

LOL at old pants! I was actually thinking of using some of DS's old clothes (it's for a new baby room - I only have a few weeks left and have done nothing to prepare it) but I can't imagine using his pants . I had originally intended to quilt them but bunting seems faster now!

I'll check out Prima.

I did bunting by just cutting out triangles with pinking shears so the edges are all nice and frilly, then sewed in one long strip along bias binding. Just one long sew on the machine, posting bunting triangles on at intervals.
We put it up for birthdays and all high days and holidays
Such fun to make my DH has now had to beg me to stop!!!
