I’m trying to learn to crochet, I don’t know anyone else who does and was wondering if someone could kindly check out what I’ve done so far and let me know if it looks right, before I continue, in case it’s all wrong. Thank you so much.

Looking lovely ☺️

That’s so kind, thank you for replying! I’d been googling pictures of crochet to compare it to and started worrying that it didn’t look right.

Well done for taking this hobby up! I love to crochet and self taught during Covid lockdown.
What stitch are you doing here? It looks like a double on one row and a single on the next row because the heights of the stitches look different on each row. The best piece of advice that I got was to get your tension right and also avoid black yarn if you can 😂

Looks good to me. As another beginner, Its always the edges I worry about as that's where dropping stitches or an inconsistent yarn tension start showing. If it remains square you are doing a good job!!

It looks fine to me if you are intending the stitches of alternate rows to be different heights. I think that the color changing yarn may have accentuated this.

I used to crochet as a young girl - with baby garments being sold in my mother’s shop. I stopped doing it but wanted to pick it up to do amigurumi for my grandchildren. You Tube has been super helpful. Many items do videos to accompany the patterns

I can crochet and my advice is to stay away from fluffy yarn (unless it is absolutely nec)! It is lovely to look and feels nice, but it is a pain to see the stitches clearly!
Carry on with your project, it looks great, but for learning new stitches have a ball of chunky cheap wool or acrylic to use, rip and reuse.
