DS2 wants to be a Dragonfly!

DS2s nursery is having an Ugly Bug Ball and all the children need to go in fancy dress as a mini beast.

I have a super ant costume that I made myself for DS1 a couple of years back, but DS2 has his heart set on being a dragonfly.

I thought I would get some wings in the least girly but still dragonflyish colour possible and was thinking probably purple or blue - but DS2 has seen some glittery rainbow coloured wings and wants to wear them! I was also going to put him in his black sweatshirt and joggers but have now found out that dragonflies have beautiful coloured bodies as well as wings!

I normally would'nt mind and would let him wear whatever he wants as long as he is happy, but he has already been teased by some of the other boys at nursery because his favourite colour is pink and am worried this could make things worse.

Does anyone have any idea how I can do a not-too-feminine looking dragonfly - I have given up trying to persuade him to be something else and have run out of other mini beasts to suggest!

My ds wanted to be a fairy in his playschool xmas play because they didn't have to do any singing! I sent him in maroon with black trimming and made him more elf like. The year before he was a pig and much as i tried to persuade him that you can get black pigs he insisted he had to be a pink pig. He looked very cute with a curly tail.

Send him in whatever he wants but as you said make it boyish.

Green is a good dragonfly colour, or blue. Irredescent fabric if you can.

He'll look great. Forget what the other children say, but have a word with the nursery leader and make sure the teasing gets stopped.

Gilly

Was actually hoping to cut corners by buying the wings, but its looking like that might not be possible - have looked everywhere online and the only dragonfly shaped ones were adult sized.

Ironically the two dragonfly pictures I have got don't look girly at all - they look quite alien like really.

Hmm

Don't really have the time for something that complicated.

Have had a good look at some more pictures and decided that if I keep the colour bluey green - buy some wings (may need to alter their shape) - re-use the six black stocking legs I made for the ant costume and add a suitably bug eyed mask - I might be able to get away with it.

Am considering adding a sort of tail made out of iridescent bluey green material - but only if I get time.
