Anyone know how to make a simple bird feeder?

The magpies have nicked my bird feeders! They are nowhere to be found and the wee birds are fluttering around looking for food.

I tried to make a feeder out of a plastic bottle with a pencil shoved through it but all the seed just poured out!

Help!

Does it have to be the hanging kind traditionally filled with seeds and peanuts? Or will a simple tray arrangement like this do? You could make that out of a platic bottle a little easier i think.

It would solve the problems of the seeds pouring out until you can buy another (heavier) one!

an upside down yoghurt pot with string attached to the top filled with melted lard (yum) mixed with seeds. Let it set and go hard, hang it up - those little birdies LOVE it (the tit types especially)
