anyone know what dye i need to use?????

i have 2 knee length cardigans 1 cream and 1 grey and i want to dye them brown and black respectively -what should i use?

if they are acrylic you wont be able to dye them.

i like Dylon washing machine dyes best

hi thanks for your replies- now the grey one IS acrylic and the cream one is wool. excuse my ignorance vvv but why will acrylic not dye am gutted if it wont i only bought it thinking i coul dye it!

only natural fibres or natural fibre/synthetic mix eg: 60% cotton 40% polyester will take the dye - i think the synthetic fibres are dyed in production?

if you look on the dylon website you should get all info you need plus you can email them for advice

thanks ever so much vintage i will take myself off and have a look at dylon yes it v annoying about the grey one oh well i will have to go and buy some clothes to match my gre cardigan

you can dye wool with food colours and vinegar, you just have to be careful about agitating the fabric too much in the dyepot or shocking it (i.e. big temperature change in the water) or it will felt.
