Does anyone do kinusaiga? Could it be done more sustainably?

I've watched a few videos and its polystyrene sheets and double sided sticky stuff

& im a bit of an eco geek and id be interested in trying it but using more sustainable resources

Originally they used carved wood, which is pretty muchnout of my skill set, but what else (easily obtainable) could be used

I have plenty of fabric, I reckon cardboard might not be stable enough, copydex is pretty sustainable I understand bit I'm stumbling on the boards

Has anyone any thoughts?

That makes me think of cork mats too!

Balsa wood is pretty rare as a second hand item, but old mats might be achievable
