Fabric choice advice for reupholstering sofa

Not sure whether to post here or in home decoration.

i have bought a beautiful pair of spring, comfy Ercol vintage sofas for our new home that we’re renovating. The fabric is shot and hideous but fortunately I can sew.

any insight on fabric type? I love velvet but I’m thinking not cotton velvet, to avoid sun fading. My main concern is my 3 teens and 2 dogs. I think loaf do something called clever velvet but I’m not sure for reupholstering myself, how to work out which fabric will be stain-resistant but beautiful

Aren't they fabulous ❤ i love the abstract ones and some of them look Kandinsky inspired I think. I love how they have covered mid century chairs with them in the photographs. The designs are perfect for the furniture style.
