Need some colour inspiration for embroidery

I’ve inherited some old unfinished embroidery items from my granny, and I’ve been trying to complete them as gifts for my cousins. I need some colour inspirations though, as I’m not very good at choosing colours!

I’ve attached the one I’m currently working on, and circles the bits I need to choose colours for - the little circles that go in the brown lines, and the flowers around the borders.

Obviously I don’t want to unpick any of the work my granny had done. The pieces are anti-macassars, but I’m planning to make them into table runners.

Can anyone suggest colours that would work for these parts? Thank you!

I would make the flowers around the edge white; they would look fresh, and not fight with or detract from the central flowers. I think I would go for a darker shade of brown for the lines, so that the lines keep a sense of continuity and flow.

I was thinking white for the flowers, maybe with yellow centres? Hadn’t thought of a darker brown for the lines; that could look great - I’ll try it out!

In white, the flowers might get a bit too lost but they would look lovely if you could match that blue, which has to be central for a reason, possibly picking out the lighter shades.

For the frame, I would pick out something fairly neutral from the room you want to use it in but make sure the colour values work with the colours already there. Maybe lay some threads down to see how they look.

For the flowers I’d go for the blue, pink or yellow that has already been used. Not sure much needs doing to the stem?
