Simple wedding dress alteration..?

I’ve attached two photos of the same dress. The original dress has a net insert in the neckline - the second photo shows the same dress but with this insert removed.

Do you think that this insert is just cut away? Or is it a more difficult alteration than it looks?

My friend has this dress but wants the alteration.

The second post photo makes it look more complicated than snipping off. You couldn’t snip all the way down as it the top layer could then flap about as the structure is compromised. Maybe it needs a delicate hem where it is cut down to.

I’m not an expert, I just like making clothes sometimes - I am a wing it hobbyist!

I prefer it open too btw

Yes, I suppose it depends whether the insert is just covering that area, or whether it has some structural integrity. I’ll see the dress in person next week so I’ll investigate!

what is the back of the dress like? Looks like it has a full back so structure looks fine. Looks like you could easily and carefully snip out the “modesty panel”

Looking closely at the altered neckline, it looks like there is a thin strap behind the second row of flowers in the lace. If there is, it could be there to add structure to the bodice in lieu of the lace insert.

It could also just be a thin bra strap. It's difficult to see from the picture.

Thanks everyone.

This is the back. I think you’re right!

If the net material goes all the way under the top at the front, then you may to put a row of stitching down each side of the front once you’ve cut away the netting. When you get to the bust bit, you would have to cut it so that you could tuck it over the top and sew it underneath, otherwise you’d have a raw edge. Frankly, for a wedding dress, I’d have it altered professionally.
