Hi there, I have inherited a feather headdress which I think dates to the 1920s. (I don’t mean a kind of pastiche Native American headdress, it’s more the sort of thing that a fashionable young lady might have worn for an evening out.)
After some thought I have decided to restore it a bit (being very careful of the need to avoid over doing it!). I think the main thing is the colouring- the feathers seem to have been dyed blue, black and gold but this has faded.
Ive been looking at dyes but am not sure what sort to use or how to apply it. I tend to think by spraying, in case direct application causes damage. Does this suggest some sort of fabric spray colour? Would this even work on feathers? Obviously I would try anything I used on a small inconspicuous area first.
I would be so grateful for any advice as would feel awful if I damaged it!
