Holocaust memorial project

My son needs to make a holocaust memorial for his religion homework over Christmas, we are quite crafty people and want to make it different and respectful but we are having trouble coming up with any ideas, our minds are just blank.
He wants to do something different then just drawing or writing as so many projects are like this and we have the opportunity to do something different but our brains just simply aren't working. Does anyone have any amazing ideas we could work with please?

I know it is a jewish tradition to place stones rather than flowers on graves as an act of remembrance - I wonder if something like painting on pebbles would be suitable ?

He could make a menorah (it holds the 8 candles lit during Chanukah) 🕎

Has his class looked at some examples?? There are an amazing range, from Jewish symbols, Budapest shoes, stipplestones (sp), some American modern ones…Google and have a look, then consider WHAT he wants to memorialise, a specific place/event/person or the whole holocaust? Does he want it to be ‘everyday’ (In Holland there is a railway truck used as a memorial) or special (such as Berlin’s stelei memorial)? Try to narrow down that way and then use your imagination. I’ve set this as a homework before and had fabulous results, it really makes students think.
