Knitting Design books

Could anyone recommend a good book on how to teach yourself knitwear design? Preferably not American, because the terminology can be different although I could manage if I had to. Not beginner level either because I would say that I am an advanced knitter.

I have done some of my own designs, but that tends to be taking a basic pattern and putting a fancy stitch into it.

I think the best resource is the designers forums on Ravelry, including the test knitters groups, tbh. Also add yourself to as many mailing lists for calls for submissions as you can, then read the various style sheets the magazines send even if you aren’t submitting.

Were you thinking of designing garments for yourself, or writing patterns to publish?

I can suggest a couple for the former, but not for the latter, except one by Kate Atherley (Canadian).

(It is for beginners to pattern writing, not beginner knitters.)

I’m having trouble thinking of any in either category that aren’t American, though.

Potentially both. I did find a couple of library books listing pattern design, which I have reserved.

Thanks for the recommendation - I will check that out.
