Halloween sewing!

I’m making my son a Halloween costume with a cape/wings. The kind you attach to the arms so it waves about when you flap. Originally I thought I’d tie it around the neck with a ribbon but as he’s only 3, I’m concerned about the choke risk.

im now thinking I’m going to make the cape/wings and attach them to the top of the arms of a long sleeved top. I’m completely stumped as to how to do this as I can’t turn the top inside out to just adjoin to the existing hem. If I just sew them from the right side I’ll end up making the arms narrower and I’m concerned they’ll no longer fit my son. I hope this makes sense! Advice most welcomed

I think you will have to do this by hand if you want to attach it to an existing top.

I have made quite a few cape type costumes (lady bird / bat etc) and done the neck fastening with a popper so that if it were to get caught it would come undone fairly easily. Hair bands work well as the wrist fastening.
