Sewing experts - Stupid question about lining

I want to make lined Christmas stocking this year but feeling stupid!
When I cut the lining pieces, should they be the exact same size as the exterior pieces or a bit smaller? And how much smaller?

I'm finding mixed messages online, tutorials say to cut all 4 pieces the same but somewhere they also say keep the lining smaller and I'm getting confused

Linings are actually meant to be fractionally bigger. They are in clothes anyway.

If they are the same size or smaller they can drag or pull.

Just cut them the same size- makes life easier as you attach them at the top.

For a Christmas Stocking I would just cut them exactly the same size.
