Selling yarn on Vinted

I’m being ruthless and getting rid of my collection of yarn ( I used to work in a wool shop, nuff said).
I’ll donate odd balls to charity but I have some lovely discontinued Rowan 4ply botany skeins (13 skeins in assorted autumnal colours) and some old Rowan books ( all from early nineties). They are so old I can’t find them on selling sites to gauge a realistic price. I’ve not used selling sites before but was thinking of trying Vinted.
Should I sell as bundles?
Not bothered about getting maximum prices but want it to be worth the effort!
Anyone have any advice?

Can you list them on Ravelry? I've sold quite a few vintage Rowan yarns on there

MyOtherProfile · 04/09/2025 14:14

13 skeins in autumn colours sounds gorgeous!

CalzoneOnLegs · 04/09/2025 14:16

There are some of those knitting books on EBay, sorry meant to attach a photo.

I did think of Ravelry but you can’t post to the the US at the moment so that might limit success. @CalzoneOnLegs mine are much older than that and I haven’t seen any to compare.

I've bought lots of yarn on Ebay - Rowan and vintage Jaeger in particular. I have searches for good brands that I run every so often.

I've also bought 1950s/60s Vogue knitting books and vintage patterns.

It's worth searching the yarn section for Rowan and seeing what comes up and how things are described. Good descriptions tend to command better prices.

Surely they aren’t sellable now? Won’t they just deteriorate in the wash and any item made from them fall apart?

CalzoneOnLegs · 04/09/2025 18:14

@Wbeezer here is one from 1986, so perhaps go somewhere in between, or whatever you would be happy with.🧶

Why do you think that? I made a jumper using hundreds of different yarns a couple of years ago, one of the yarns being something my mother had donated to me. It was older than me. I am currently 60. The yarn was fine and the jumper has been much worn and still fine.

At the time this was the best yarn you could buy, if stored clean it will be perfect. I think I have the Rowan mags back to no. 15, I might be interested in older ones. The late 80s/early 90s designs are back on trend now.

Absolutely beautiful. How much would you put them on for?

Sunshinedahlias · 04/09/2025 19:41

Those are gorgeous colours . There’s quite a lot of yarn on vinted and it’s very easy to list. I buy a lots of vintage knitting books off eBay too.

NotMyRealAccount · 04/09/2025 19:42

If you're in the UK, the Yarn Snobs group on FB might be worth trying. It's beautiful yarn.

Wbeezer · 05/09/2025 13:07

@MyOtherProfile that’s what I’m trying to work out, I saw one skein on Etsy for £18! But not all of mine have labels and the balls aren’t full weight. Trying to get a balance between a decent return and selling them to someone who will use them to make something lovely!

@NotMeNoNo I’ve got 10,12,16 and Autumn winter93.

I took delivery of this yesterday, cost £1 plus postage and Vinted said it had been listed for three months. Perfect for what I need for a project, though.

I don't know that particular brand, but I have bought yarn from ebay. TBH- I never knew vinted sold anything other than clothes! I've only looked at vinted briefly and found it hard to navigate so have never bought anything from there.

For me though, I buy cheap/any colour yarn to make rugs that I donate to charity. I've often found prices on ebay more than balls in charity shops. For a specific branded, yarn though, its worth trying it on vinted. Lovely colours.
