confused by the attached instruction. Are psso and sl1k not the same thing?
It’s supposed to be the start of farm stitch pattern

No! Your pattern will most likely have a glossary of terms but should be the following:
sl1K: insert your needle into the stitch as if to knit, and slip over without working it
k1: knit the next stitch
psso: go back to that sl1K that you had already done and pull it back off the needle entirely, taking it over the knit stitch you have just done. I.e. you are reducing by one stitch, almost like you are binding off that particular stitch.

you can give it a google and there will be videos on YouTube explaining if I’ve not made any sense!

Slip 1 stitch knitwise, knit 1, then pass slipped stitch over - so you are decreasing 1 stitch. Here is a video:
