My DS and his partner are moving into their first house. I had the idea of visiting the night before they move in and decorating the front door to welcome him and his partner to their new home. Would love some crafty suggestions. All ideas welcome!

That sounds lovely idea. How about a bower/archway full of fresh flowers and foliage?

On the face of it a lovely idea but this is not your house. Putting your mark on someone else’s front door seems like a bad idea. Send flowers or give them a voucher to buy a wreath.

Don't so this OP. You can't welcome them to their new home, it's not your house. It could come off as controlling. Don't take away from the excitement. Send them flowers or a card saying 'good luck in your new home'. Let them do their own door decorating and welcoming.

For those who are doubting my motives we always decorate our house for birthdays and celebrations with balloons and banners and have done throughout his entire life. I'm not talking anything permanent - I'm thinking something that can be ripped off or walked through. I'm almost sure he'll be almost expecting something like that so please don't think I'm overstepping - he appreciates his quirky mother!

I would just get some helium balloons with New Home written on them to stand in front of the door either side. Maybe a little banner to go over the top.

But surely the night before they move in it will still be someone else’s house?

It's currently empty so this isn't a problem :)
