I wouldn't buy one because it looks so easy to make, I'd try to do it myself. Then I'd make a right hash of it and beg to buy some from you instead... What are you thinking of them being used for? I could see them looking purdy as Chrtstmas tree decorations, or thin curtain tie-backs.

MargaretMountford · 13/05/2008 12:26

yep, they are easy to make ! I made smaller ones at Christmas with different buttons and sequins for tree decs..I've been researching in various gift shops/interiors shops and they have quite a few hangy things for just hanging about the house- I have some painted tin hearts on string and little glass birds...that's the kind of thing...no use whatsoever, but ornamental...
what's a 'toe cover'' though MMJ ?

i love ornamanets and trinkets

i would buy three hearts and hang them in a line by my back door

ooh, ooh - you could do different sizes as well

MargaretMountford · 13/05/2008 12:58

mm, yes I could ! the tricky bit is threading the buttons so that they overlap pleasingly, not as easy as you might think

Oooh, lovely!

What about doing all blue or all pink for babies?

MargaretMountford · 13/05/2008 13:27

that's an idea merlin ! never heard of toe covers but yes,the are of no use, just ornament !

Whizzz · 13/05/2008 15:49

I like them ! I have seen that sort of things in craft shops.
You could maybe add a little ribbon bow too to soften it a bit?

suzywong · 13/05/2008 15:52

Nope, I wouldn't buy it, since you ask. But I AM liking your 1940s son. Very much.

MargaretMountford · 13/05/2008 17:34

Whizzz - was going to tie a bit of vintage ribbon on the wire
Fair enough suzywong, but thanks for compliment about ds - he's the best thing I've ever made

The flowers in the bath are so pretty!

The heart is nice, but I wouldn't buy it, again, I'm not into 'toe covers'.

MargaretMountford · 13/05/2008 17:37

thanks belgo - ds and dh made the bath !

bellabelly · 13/05/2008 17:40

I reckon you could market them as nursery decorations. V pretty.

vInTaGeVioLeT · 13/05/2008 18:41

i think it's lovely - especially nice buttons - i saw some similar in a poncy shop for £5 and they were just plastic pearly buttons

MargaretMountford · 13/05/2008 19:18

oh thank you vintage - a compliment from the button queen ! I emailed my dad a photo of the beads I want (I got them down in Frome last week) and asked him to get me some more !

OP posts:
MargaretMountford · 14/05/2008 11:23

anyone else ? just need to know whether to pursue this idea !

OP posts:
chrissnow · 14/05/2008 11:32

Yes I think they are very buyable!! Only (slight) criticism is the 'hanging up' bit. Maybe a bit of ginghamy/vintage ribbon instead (not necessarily in a bow - too fussy I think - more like a 'tab' of ribbon iyswim). (sorry for being bossy )
I would absolutely 100% buy the 50's school boy though .
Oh gosh that makes me sound very very wrong 'twas meant as a compliment!!

MargaretMountford · 14/05/2008 11:37

chrissnow - thanks for comments on both boy [grin} and hanging thing - yes, definitely will add a bit of vintage ribbon -
