painting a plate...can i use any plates? do i need porcelain paint?

depends if you are going to need to wash it - ie if you are just doing it as a decorative thing or one to be baked

I think there are paints that you can use on a plate which you then bake in the oven so it sets, but not altogether sure whether they are wash proof ( or indeed food safe)
If it's just decorative then it won't matter
