instructions for iron-on velcro please!

I bought a short length from John Lewis and thought I knew how to iron it on so it sticks, but it doesn't stick. It's definitely the iron on, not sew on or stick on.

I have temporarily sewn it on by hand (which was pretty difficult as it is so thick). But if anyone has the instructions please let me know what I should be doing!!

I had some that you had to peel the backing off first..................
If this is definitely not the case though, a damp teatowel put over the top and a very hot iron, pressed down hard should do it.
But check if you need to peel off the backing first

Thanks vbacqueen1, I'm fairly sure there is no backing to come off . Dp is using the iron at the moment but I will try your technique when he's finished doing his shirts.
