Knit socks for DMs?

All winter I've been wearing my (first ever) DMs, with wool socks. So supremely comfortable!

Years ago I knitted wool socks for my children. Small feet = a relatively quick and therefore satisfying project. I've never made socks for size 8 hooves, but I'm tempted to make some to wear with my Docs. Would handmade wool socks survive DMs? I'm not going to go to the trouble of knitting socks if they would be too fragile for use.

It hasn't been an issue for my grown up kids with DM and handknitted socks.

I knit in a blend of 80% wool. It makes the socks more sturdy than 100% wool.

We use woolen socks for all our boots.

I'd recommend small stitches and some nylon content especially for the heel.
Have you seen yarn by Cool Woolings? They do a bright yellow that is very close to DM laces yellow.

I've got some lovely Rico Superba Poems. 75% wool, 25% nylon/polyamide. Would that do?

Does it matter whether I go for a pattern with a ribbed heel or short row heel?

The heel type mostly depends on what fits you best, or whatever is in the pattern you are following if these are your first socks.

I prefer knitting socks toe up and have found a you tube tutorial for a short row heel that is easy this way round.

These won't be the first socks, but the first in a long time. I'm happy to make either style.

I definitely want to knit them toe up, as I have chunky calves and may need to adjust the width as I go. Most toe-up patterns seem to be short row, so that's the way I'll go, I guess.
