I am not an artist but I'm a creative person who has done lots of craft courses and workshops over the years and run workshops for free for years with children/teens/ local charities/ craft clubs.
I have been offered a paid opportunity to start running workshops in the garden of a local attraction - they are aimed at families and I will be doing crafts like cyanotypes, flower pressing, tie dye, decoupage. I have signed up for public liability insurance for this, but the organiser is asking if I have a social media handle - I don't! I barely even have any photos of the workshops I have run over the years as I'm always so busy running them and hadn't intended to run a business. Any good suggestions for an instagram handle? I was thinking of creating an instagram page showing work I have made over the years and several examples of what we will be doing for the first workshop?
I'm ok with the organisation of it and ensuring that the workshop won't make a loss ( fortunately i am being paid a flat fee and it doesn't require people to sign up), and they are providing the tables and chairs etc and an assistant for em on the day but I want to make this a success, and hopefully be hired to do more. It's nature inspired/mindful/eco family crafts I am doing. I don't know whether to use my own name ( I am not an artist -and I am known for my distinctly non artistic day job profession which pays the bills) - or create a business name? I'm unlikely to make more than £1,000 doing this so wasn't planning to register myself as a business - although the contract with them is offering me my fee plus 20 % VAT so maybe I should set up a business. I'm hoping to expand this in the future.
Any tips as I start on the business side of this would be greatly appreciated - I'm late 40s and don't really do social media but i think i should start..
