Adding an interlining to ready-made curtains - help!

I have a pair of ready-made curtains which are lined, but I'd like to make them a heavier weight. I was thinking about putting in an interlining but I haven't got a clue which to use, etc.

My sewing skills are "ok-ish" - I've previously made lined curtains (both with a machine and by hand) and have also replaced curtain linings. However, I've no experience of interlining at all.

The curtains are Laura Ashley Gosford with a pencil pleat heading. Width 223cm L183cm. The main fabric is 100% cotton and the lining is polycotton (50% cotton/50% polyester).

A) I was thinking of domette interlining, but I'm not sure about which weight?

B) Because of the width, I'd need to make a join in each interlining, but I'm not sure of the best method to use for this.

C) Would I be better taking off the lining and header tapes and then adding in the interlining, or is there an easier, quicker way of doing this?

Any advice is really appreciated!
