Looking for funky knitting patterns...

MIL is a good knitter and keen to knit for my DD (11 months). I am delighted but haven't a clue where to look for nice patterns? Would like interesting/funky/ethnic designs (not frilly girlie stuff). Any recommendations?

Debbie Bliss does nice ones. And have a look at the Drops website for free ones. They're really really nice! I just bought a book on Amazon - cute knits, I think it may be called. It's French and funky. Only up to 1 year though so if your 11mo is average size, then it's probably not worth the money.

google knitting patterns central, lots of free pattterns

and look at knitty magazine on the web as well

Could look at the Rowan kids books, also books by Zoe Mellor. They are usually funky and colourful.

I would recommend becoming a member of Ravelry and then you get access to lots of free patterns and can see them knitted by lots of different people. I have a 14 month DD but tend towards the more girly patterns, although not exclusively, and I think the Sublime patterns are really nice. Can be difficult to find a local supplier but Get Knitted and other websites stock them.

Definitely Ravelry. Also, try these patterns -

gorgeous non-traditional pinafore

little skirt

scroll down for the toddler tunic

funky hat

nice muted cardigan

Knittingpatterncentral.com has a lot of free patterns as well.
