Has anyone tried using chatGPT for knitting/crochet patterns?

Just interested if anyone has tried this and if it actually worked?

I follow a few crochet YouTube channels and I've seen some of them experiment with asking ChatGPT to create a pattern (usually amiguruni) and the results when they actually crochet the pattern are usually very odd looking!

Conversely, I've seen people use it to help them with understanding written patterns when they are struggling to understand the abbreviations - you ask it to write the pattern out in full and it makes it much clearer. I struggle to read patterns (usually use video tutorials) so I'm tempted to try this.

Mathematically it shouldn't work because ChatGPT doesn't understand logic and can't do calculations. It will be able to produce something that looks like a crochet pattern but it's unlikely to work

The Reddit sub 'CraftedByAI' has some examples of following AI generated patterns.

Thanks everyone. I was using it at work for writing bits of code and I started wondering if it was any use for knitting. I also asked it to write me a poem for my partner in Welsh and it said he is 'wise like the floor' so it's not great at that either 😆

To be fair, a lot of my crochet projects end up looking like that anyway

I would not try that! YOu can get some odd results even if you ask it for a simple recipe or summary of a basic concept, so I don't think it's quite there yet

I've heard about people using ChatGPT for all sorts of things, so it's interesting to see if it can help with knitting and crochet patterns. The idea of getting a quick pattern from ChatGPT at gptonline.ai/ is intriguing!
