How do you stick the gems on?

I bought this kit for my daughter yesterday. It comes with lots of gems but only this tiny square pink thing (and applicator stick) that feels waxy. How are you meant to actually stick the gems on? How will that little square be enough for all the gems. I'm so confused! Temped to just try with a pritt stick!

Close up of what we did by poking it through the waxy stuff, but will soon run out. Maybe I melt it?

The Santa, snowman and tree should have a film that peels off and leaves a sticky residue underneath. Then you dip the pink stick into the pink pad leaving a blob on the end and use it to help pick up the gems.

That's going to look lovely and festive once its done. 🎄
