My dog loving friend is having a baby and I want to make this blanket. I have the instructions but feeling overwhelmed. I can't get that hang of magic circles for a start but feeling determined 💪🏻

The magic ring can be fiddly. I only just learned to crochet this year. I watched a tutorial on you tube (repeatedly) till I got that hang of it. Without the instructions the main granny square is actually very quick and way, but the brown patch over the eye I do t tho o I could blag without reading the instructions. There are loads of tutorials on YouTube for very similar circle granny square. But the eye is an extra element. If you have a specific question I could try to help

If you can't get the hang of the magic ring then you can chain 3 and join, then crochet into the middle. Other than that what are you stuck with specifically?

CrochetBug all of it!! Seemed like a good idea when I bought the pattern and now I have it I am overwhelmed with getting started. I have watched loads of YouTube but can't get the hang of it. You were really kind and helped me when I was struggling with treble crochet, I now find it a breeze. Crochet doesn't come naturally to me... my friend watched Bella Coco once and is making postbox toppers!!

I still haven't managed a granny square... I can make gorgeous little pumpkins and I even made a beanie for DS but both were mostly eyeballing it. Can't get my head around a granny square...
Will follow and hope.
Good luck OP

That looks like the brown eye and ears are separately made and stitched on afterwards

To get round the magic ring, which I can do, but another method is to chain two and work into the first one. This tightens too leaving no hole, and you can fully secure the work when you sew in the end.

What made the difference for me when I was learning granny squares was covering them in stitch markers. One in the centre of the initial round so I knew where I was stitching into & one on each corner as I went so that I knew where I was. It made it far easier.

There's a lady I follow in you tube (Bella Coco) who does some really great tutorials. I was about ready to give up crocheting when I found her and haven't looked back. Here's a link to an alternative to starting with a circle, but she has some great videos on different stitches, if you're left handed and granny squares x

@Georgeismydog oh I'm glad I've helped before.

Ok so the main square looks like it is treble crochets but done in a circle.
I know it's overwhelming but take it 1 step at a time and you'll get there.
