Calling any knitters - Are you any good at picot edging, Im not!

Im trying to do some picot edging for a dress for my dds baby! - I feel I may be slightly overstretching myself as the pattern also involves little bobbles and a cable pattern!!!!!!!!!

Anyway could anyone help me with the picot bit - k1 yf, k2tog; rep from to end

What does yarn forward actually mean - I cant figure it out. Ive got a row of 89 stitches to practise on

Bring the yarn between the needles to the front of the needle (like you would if you were purling. Hope that makes sense, practise a bit by making a sample and you can see the pattern develop as you work and you'll get an understanding of why your bringing your yf.

Just to add - after you've brought forward the yarn, go straight into the knit stitch, taking the wool over the needle and therefore creating another loop on the needle as well as the one you've just knitted by knitting 2 together.

Oooh, I thought that was going to sound simple, but fear I may have complicated it!

Basically you should end up with the same number of stitches on your needle - if you do, you've probably got it right.

Aaaaaah so Im knitting 2tog (not purling them) then Ill end up with a stitch and a new bit of wool on the needle

No don't purl it, knit it so, likeTandG said you have an extra loop on your needle, this makes the hole for the picot.

What do I do on the next row?
Do I just let the bit of wool disappear - thus creating the picot pattern?

No knit the extra bit of wool as if it were a stitch you will see a hole appear.

To clarify you should bring wool to front between the needles, then K2tog (you will have an extra bit of wool on your needle) then, on the next row, knit (or purl whatever the pattern says, guessing purl) the extra stitch.

Once you get used to it, it's quite easy but I wouldn't do it whilst watching the telly to start with, you need to concentrate a bit. Once you've done it, you may as well tell every one that you can knit lace, it is a technique much used in lace patterns.

I know ranting that is why this is quite exciting! As previously I have always ignored fancy knitting patterns!
