Knitting help please!

Haven’t knitted in years and decided to knit a baby cardigan for a friends grandchild.
Can someone help with these instructions…
Should I be knitting 2 together with the yarn forward, then k5 as normal, or k2tog, then bring yarn forward to k5?

Knitting help please!

You will k2tog then bring your yarn forward and knit 5. By bringing the yfwd you create a stitch while doing your knit 5 to make up for the one lost when you k2tog

Knit 2 stitches together then bring the yarn to front of the work. Then knit 5, knit 2 together and then bring yarn to front of work. Bringing yarn forward makes a loop around the needle and keeps stitch count the same even though you've reduced stitch count by knitting 2 together. Then repeat k5, k2tog, yfwd until you have 12 stitches left on the row.

Yes, only the first stitch (of the 5)

Yes, just one. The instruction are k2tog, do a yarn over (aka yfwd which is a daft name for it in my view) and then knit 5.

I seem to have forgotten what to do, 30 years ago I was cabling and all sorts!

I think if it was yarn forward before each stitch of the five, it would be written as:

(yfwd, k1)*5

I agree it's one yfwd followed by 5 knit st. I'm sure everything will come back to you!
