I am knitting the forecast cardigan...I've done about 14 rows of the cable/bobble pattern now and have a sneaking suspicion something just ain't right...could one of you knitting boffins take a look and let me know what you think

it's the cable part...there are 8 rows per repeat...and my reading of the pattern says I take each row on the chart as a knit (or RS) row and not count the plain purl rows I do in between...however looking at the cable I am coming up with there seems to be a bit of a long gap between the elements...do you think I should be counting the purl rows as rows on the pattern chart too? (does that make any sense at all?) My bobbles just aren't "nestling" between the cables, they are more acting much more distant than that

(I hate charts today)

Don't cable the purl rows as well or you'll end up with a really tight knit and the cardigan will be too small! Have you done a tension square in the pattern?

EffiePerine · 03/04/2008 09:38

ah I see - yes I think you should count the purl rows, just cable on the RS?

BellaBear · 03/04/2008 09:40

I agree with EffiPerine

I looked and looked and now that Effie has posted again I think she's right, you should be counting each row, but all the cabling rows should be RS and knitted
I love seeing Knitty but ALWAYS have trouble following their patterns . Circular AND cable likely to fry my limited brian I'm afraid Jean, but it is a gorgeous pattern! Good luck...

aha...that would make sense indeed...so I'm going to have to rip my lovingly knit cables...still will be worth it to have it right I guess

was it just me or was that not so obvious from the pattern? because the purl rows just say "purl" whereas the "knit" rows say "Bla bla bla...WC9..."

grr...

Thank You
