Substitute yarn for lettlopi?

My son wants me to knit him a jumper from a lettlopi pattern but finds lettlopi too scratchy. Can anyone suggest an alternative yarn?

Have you looked at yarn subs? They are us based but have a lot of UK alternatives too

I have had a look but wondered if anyone had an "I used x and is was great/ would never try that again" experience.

Is your son OK with other pure wool or does he find them all scratchy?

Lettlopi is really scratchy to the point I wonder how they sell it.

Other wools are OK. I've a couple of lopi jumpers and they definitely aren't for wearing next to the skin.

Looking at the list of substitutes I'd be most tempted by the Jamieson of Shetland and West Yorkshire Spinners Croft as Shetland wool is so soft and not scratchy.

Does he mind how the yarn looks? Drops Big Marino would be the right weight substitute and it's lovely and soft, but it doesn't have that rustic look. https://www.woolwarehouse.co.uk/yarn/drops-big-merino-all-colours

The west Yorkshire Pinners looks a good option. Sadly the Drops Big Merino doesn't have the colours he wants.
