Dyeing a hat - any advice/experience/thoughts

Hello everyone, any advice or thoughts on dyeing an ivory toyo straw hat to chocolate brown using Rit DyeMore? Shellaced rice paper sounds like a tricky one. Obviously I can't put it in hot water but I was going to try a very long cold bath of dye using a high concentration of dye to water.

I’ve used Rit Dye before and it’s good stuff… however, I’m not sure I’d go near anything labelled as made of paper!
Have you thought about spraying it?

Thanks for replying! I might try a spray. I'm leaning towards not trying anything now so I don't damage it. Dull colour though.
