Best way to attach elastic to cardboard

For world book day I've made a cardboard mask for dd to wear. I need to attach some elastic to it and just wondering if anyone had any suggestions for the best way to do this.
I've considered stapling it but not sure if it will hold and will look a bit rough.
Also thought about glueing it on but not sure the best glue to use.

MAke a tiny hole, thread it through and knot it on the outside of the mask, and then do the same on the other side.
If you put some sellotape front and back and make the holes through the taped spot, the card will be reinforced and less likely to tear.

Hole punch and reinforce with sellotape, yes.
