It's an overlocker question

I have a Janome 9300DX which I have a very basic understanding of. How do I reduce the depth of the overlocked stitch? I am using the same one regardless of fabric and would like a shorter depth when working on lighter fabric. I can't add an image because I have had to change my username as I can't work out how to get into my original mumsnet account and this is my first post. As you can see technology is beginning to fail me. Hope you understand my question - can anyone please help? I can't search my manual as I don't know what it's called 😄

Do you mean the stitch width? There are only two possible widths on your overlocker. The regular width uses both needles (left and right) or just the left hand needle alone. To get a narrower width, remove the left hand needle and use only the right hand needle.

@toomanytrees I'd completely forgotten I could do this! Thank you - I'll give it a go later and see if it achieves what I'm thinking in my head 😊

Yep, it's whether you use the left or right hand needle for the needle thread. That's the only way to change stitch width on an overlock stitch. There's a narrow hem too on some machines, and a rolled hem. Both Involve dropping the metal " finger" behind the movable blade. Not all machines can do this, but yours might.

@Baldieheid mine does have the rolled hem function but I've never used it. I'm too impatient and just want to get on and sew 😑. I do need to spend more time playing with it really

I don't use it much either but it's nice to have for hems on delicate fabrics like georgette

@Baldieheid do you think I have the patience for georgette 😄
