Beginner quilter tackling intermediate quilt - mad???

MIL lent me some quilting/patchwork magazines and I have found a quilt I'd like to make for DD, another reason want to make this one is already have some fabric!

However, I have never made a quilt before and have no idea how to do it. Would I be mad to consider something marked as intermediate before I knew what I was doing?

I'm very crafty and not usually too slow to pick things up :O)

Quilting is dead easy once you understand the basics.I launched straight into a king sized quilt with some pretty complicated pattterns.
Can MIL help you out? Support from someone who knows what they are doing is key.

MIL wasn't very good at it (she has no confidence in anything she does another story completely!)

However my local sewing/quilting shop has a drop in on a Monday 11am-3pm £5 you go along and speak to experienced tutor, stay and do some work or just get advice really so debating whether to take pattern and material along.

Wanted to ask opinions first as didn't want her to laugh at me for trying to run before I could walk!!!

Is it all the same pattern or are there lots of diff ones in diff squares?
What is the pattern called?

Basically there are 12 horse fabric pictures (3 diff sizes) that are edges in different fabrics (3 different layers on each picture) and eventually it is bordered with more fabric.

And I am presuming this makes no sense lol

It seems to be a 'log cabin' style quilt if that makes any sense? It doesn't seem to hard but what do I know!!

Log cabin is pretty straightforward once you get going - my first quilt was a log cabin if thats any help. I'd give it a go and definately go to the quilt shop - quilters are normally desparate to help out and you'll get loads of tips etc. Quilting is addictive though, I warn you.......

I have found its addictive already and I've not made anything yet!!!! I want to complete this one for DD and make one for my bed. I live in a country cottage so it NEEDS a quilt on the bed lol!!!!

have fun! I started quilting after i inherited my mother's stash and sewing machine after she died - a sad way of starting but I have been going over 7 years now and love it - the main problem is when you get quilt pile up ie when you have a list of promised quilts that you have no hope of completing this side of Christmas - 2021 !! I have a half finished one adorning the bannisters right now actually...
