Hi!

I am looking to take up a new hobby altering / adding embellishments to clothing. Could anyone recommend an easy to use, good sewing machine for a total newbie please?

Thanks!

Are you planning on free machine embroidery? If so, you need to be able to drop the feed dogs, or get a cover for them.

I'd go for a known brand rather than a supermarket cheap, just so you have technical support online.

Brothers, Singers, etc all have decent machines at around £100. You won't get a computer machine for that, but I doubt you'd need one. Go for a sturdy mechanical machine with a metal (not plastic) chassis.

The Brother I've recommended needs a darning plate to do free machine embroidery. It's not a problem but a machine where you just drop the feed dogs via a switch may be more convenient. Price v Convenience, basically
