Sewing ideas for beginners, one project a month.

Pre-children I learned to follow a pattern and made a few items of clothing. Skirts, tops, dresses and some PJs. But now have little time to sew and have pretty much forgotten everything.

I would like to get back into it.

I like the idea of trying a project a month. 12 over the year increasing in difficulty as I go along. I thought there must be a book with ideas and ideally patterns in, or a subscription that perhaps includes patterns and fabrics, or blog that has a follow along series along these lines. But I cant find anything.

Has anyone heard of what I am looking for, or would anyone like to join me in a sewing recap, submitting ideas for each months project and then trying some new ideas together.

Thanks

Does anyone have any recommendations,

My very first project when I was getting back into sewing was cushion covers - the envelope kind with no closures, so just sewing straight lines and not using a lot of material. I found a tutorial 9nline, but can’t remember which one.My next effort was the Luna trouser pattern from Made by Rae (no fitting knowledge necessary, and again no tricky zips or buttons)

Tilly and the Buttons is well known for beginner friendly patterns, and have lots of resources online. She also has a few books out if that’s your preference, but haven’t used those myself.

This looks like a good idea - I may join you as I need some incentive to get into sewing and other projects. I made a Tilly and the Buttons top last summer and intend to make more.
A quick search has brought up the Half Yard Sewing Club which looks interesting.

I agree regarding Tilly and the Buttons patterns but I would recommend making the garment more than once in different fabric types, lengths and try hacking the pattern to make something slightly different to the original.

It cements what you've learned and grows your confidence/skills at the same time.

I once made 4 TATB Cleo's and 5 Indigo's one after another. By the 3rd I didn't need to look at the pattern and by the last I had hacked them to be unique.
