Starting a pottery class soon - any top tips?

As the title says really…all equipment is obviously provided but what else do I need? Lovely new sketchbook for ideas or a lined notebook for making class notes, or both? If so, can anyone recommend books with nice paper. Had a look in WH Smith’s today and there was nothing inspiring.
What kind of pencils are nice to sketch with? I remember at school there was ‘HB’ but loads of others…

I am not remotely creative or artistically skilled (but I’d like to be!) so I really have no idea about any arty materials.

Any other words of wisdom about starting pottery gratefully received!

Lined notebook, journal one end (write as much stuff down as you can), ideas other end.
Pinterest or Instagram if you need ideas.
Listen carefully to the teacher!
Don't forget to clean your bottoms!!

Short sleeve top and an apron!

Thank you all, you’re so helpful!
That’s good to know about getting a set of basic tools.
And I think I do need a fancy new notebook 😉

Paint your fingernails one last time then kiss them goodbye.

A way of marking your work - a stamp or something....... I've lost work at pottery classes (both marked and unmarked, but totally individual....)
Take photos of work when you've finished it and leaving to dry/make a sketch of the item.

Thank you @YoullCatchYourDeathInTheFog luckily not too precious about my nails!
and good idea @Mumofoneandone i think I’ve got a metal stamp thing somewhere with my initial on, I’ll try to find it

Good hand moisturiser as clay is very drying to hands
Old clothes, as clay will get everywhere

I'd love to hear how the class goes!

Never used a notebook for pottery class - you just do it, you don't need notes. Sketchbook if you like but I never bothered with that either.

Something to tie/keep your hair out of the way?!

I suppose it all depends on what the OP ends up doing. I did a quick pottery course ages ago and fell in love. I've been doing it ever since and my notebooks are vital (I really regret not having written down the details of that first workshop).
