Help with ideas for a toddler boy crochet blanket.

I would like to crochet a toddler boy banket for a friend's ds going through treatment.

I would like something probably striped and that works up quickly.

I have recently done a cosy stripe blanket so maybe I will do one of them again as I know the pattern.

Any ideas on yarn or colour. I have only used stylecraft dk which sometimes I don't like the feel of. I have used hobby craft cotton yarn but colours are limited in that range.

Sorry for all the questions but only been crocheting for a few years so still learning my way.
Thankyou

Have you looked at V-stitch blankets? It's such an easy stitch & looks lovely with colour changes or a variegated yarn.

Thanks for sharing, I love the look of that pattern.

Now to decide on colours, with 2 adult DD I am a bit out of touch.

I wondered about these colours I saw online.

I think those colours are gorgeous, I love when little boys get to have something bright rather than just shades of blue.

Newtothenet that's lovely

@newtothenet wow! I hadn't seen any modern filet patterns & that's gorgeous.

OP, to decide on colours, maybe look at some yarn ranges to see what colours are available in each one. You might get inspiration from that. I don't use Stylecraft Special, but I've used Hayfield Bonus & some of the ones which are specified for Woolly Hugs (search on that & they're listed in the OP).

I've made a couple of blankets using attic 24 neat ripple pattern. I used silver every other row then a different colour for the alternate rows. Great using up odds & ends.

I would go on Pinterest, you will be given so much choice.

Years ago I made some patterned baby blankets, because of the way knitting is, the wrong side had lots of looping threads. I solved this by backing it with material. On the plus side it made it much thicker and cosier.

You don’t get this problem with crochet, so it may not be something that appeals to you.

I would go with acrylic mostly as that can survive a lot of washing, but a soft Cotten yarn will probably feel nicer.

If you dont like acrylic I would consider King cole cottonsoft DK. I have done a few blankets in it. It crochets up lovely, its soft, washes well and doesn't 'split' like other cottons

I would go for an acrylic yarn like stylecraft, purely because it washes really well and dries quickly, probably important if the blanket is for a poorly child in hospital.
