Quick what sewing machine can I buy tomorrow (Argos preferably!)

Decided to make myself a skirt, have done everything right, traced pattern carefully, cut out fabric, pinned and tacked, went to sew and sewing machine 1) caught on fire (lol) and 2) the wheel on the side has a bit broken in it.

This was second hand when I had it so decided I quite fancy a new one.

But I need it NOW as I am very impatient therefore need something from Argos or possibly Tesco tomorrow.

Thought perhaps you might like to have a look and find me one to buy don't need all singing and dancing (ie electronic screen etc) but one that will be good for dressmaking, repairing etc

I have this one, hastily purchased because my knackered old Singer gave up the ghost,mid curtain tacking.
It's ok but, if I had a choice, I would have another old Singer. But this does the job and it's got adjustable stitch lengths, which I think is a must on any machine.

This one is OK. Basic but does what you need.

Pmsl, does it tack the curtains aswell, Banality?

TBH it's much better if you can go somewhere that you can try the machines, like John Lewis or a specialist shop. But if you absolute have to buy untried I like Janome machines, Argos has one, I'm not familiar with this model though.

Tesco have one too, but it's out of stock.

Thank you RH and Bran - I'm in Cornwall don't have John Lewis or such like, I know of one specialist shop locally but that means I have to wait hmmm patience isn't one of my virtues!

They didn't have that Janome one when I got my brother one but, I would go for that one actually, over the Brother. And it has adjustible stitch widths aswell.

That company does next day delivery anyway, so you wouldn't be losing much time by not going to Argos.

That particular machine doesn't say that it does needle up/down, which is something that I find very useful (you can set it to automatically stop with the needle down which is useful if you are turning a corner, or needle up). It may be that it does do it and they just haven't mentioned it on the web page, perhaps you could give them a call. Otherwise it looks like a pretty good deal to me.

went for this one, they didn't have the one I wanted originally so he priced matched and still threw in the freebie threads and scissors. Haven't had a chance to have a go yet as children both poorly!
