Last year the Mariner's website went down and it was not long before we got a notification that they were in liquidation. It's a shame as lots of my customers in my craft shop were firm fans of them especially their blanket yarn which was a bargain price compared to other makes. Now I find that Robin has also ceased trading. They have been going for years I remember my Mum used that make the local shop only stock them and selling vintage patterns many are that brand.
there are lots of other good brands but it makes you wonder which brand next as these good ones have gone It seems no one is safe especially at a time when crafts especially crochet seem to be more popular again

I imagine it will be older brands who haven't kept up with trends or who don't offer something unique. I guess Wendy is an old one that might be at risk. They can't keep up with the bigger , newer brands who do it cheaper I guess. I think there are just so many more brands about now' big ones and "niche" ones plus independent hand dyers.

I remember Robin from my (distant!) childhood and have a couple of "rescued" balls in my stash from charity shops. I think there are just so many more brands about now.

I'm sorry to see Marriner go, I liked their yarn. I think part of the problem is that you can go on ebay and bid on very cheap imported yarn; the quality is often awful but people seem to like it for charity knits.
