Can someone point me in the right direction?

I need to know the very basics - what size needles to get, what type of yarn, etc...

I'm starting from scratch here as I haven't knitted since I was a wee girl - long time ago!

thanks!

What do you want to knit? Any ideas?

DutchOma · 26/02/2008 18:20

Get a 50 gram ball of double knitting and some No 4 needles. Then see what you can remember of casting on and knitting. Come back when you get stuck. There are websites, with diagrams as well

thanks...was thinking of just starting out simply, maybe scarfs for the dc's, perhaps a blanket...nothing fancy just something to get me into the swing of things...

I am in the USA and saw a beginners book today complete with needles and 3 patterns - is it worth the $10 (!) as I'd still need to buy the wool...?? God, I am so cheap...!

knitting is not for hte cheap, yarn is expensive.

DutchOma · 26/02/2008 18:35

No, I would search for a pattern on the internet for free, but first of all get a cheap ball of yarn to see if you can still do it and enjoy it. I would go to the market here, but I'm sure there would be somewhere for you to buy an odd ball of wool and see how you go.
