Ponchos

I'm just coming to the end of my 4th consecutive blanket and looking for my next project, preferably something smaller!
I'm great at blankets but not so good at following patterns.
I fancy a poncho or some kind of gilet / tunic for winter.
Can anyone point me to a basic pattern or tutorial please?
Not granny squares as I have an irrational loathing of them.

There used to be free text instructions on her page, but now you'd have to watch the video (or pay for the pattern on ravelry)
