Curtain making help

The curtains are for a caravan awning, they attach to the awning with a plastic hook. The current curtains are poor-they are too thin and let in too much light.
My plan is to remove the hooks from the old curtains and to sew into the new ones.
My questions are what would be the best fabric for these curtain? I think the current ones are polycotton It has to be lightweight but dark and what thread would you use to sew plastic hooks in place? I'll have to sew them on by hand.
Also any recommendations for buying it online.

Do you mean sew the whole thing by hand? Also how long and wide do they need to be? Is the support at the top metal as if not, you’ll have to be careful about how much weight there is.

you might be better getting some curtains from IKEA and just shortening them. If there are lots of little hooks then a standard general purpose poly cotton sewing thread should be fine. If not then I’d use something like a topstitching thread as it’s thicker (but will be more difficult to hand sew).

Thanks for your help.
Good idea re IKEA.
I wouldn't hand stitch the whole lot, just the plastic hook.
Yes, they'd have to be lightweight for the awning rail.
Each curtain is 70cm wide and 168cm drop, and there are 8 of them.

You can get lightweight blackout curtains. I've found ikea curtains not great as they don't have U.K. standard header tape. Dunelm may be your best bet
