Ok, treat me like the complete knitting numpty that I am, I have just started knitting and am still at the Scarves Of Varying Lengths and Widths stage, but would like to make a chunky shawl type thing for my bf when she has her baby later this year, more a shawl for herself than the baby IYKWIM.

I've got some chunky (20mm) needles which I am loving as you go a long way v quickly but I am baffled as to what sort of wool to use. For this shawl I would like a nice neutral colour, thick enough to come up nice on my chunky needles. Can anyone help - and offer me any tips?

(I haven't yet managed to negotiate knitting patterns yet )

how about a really funky wool with lots of texture? I'm holding a v wriggly baby atm but will do a search and give some examples later

too bright? or is sahara neutral enough? would be pricey to knit though

this one in vanilla spice?

Thanks miaou. The colinette stuff is a bit pricey, but lovely. Funnily enough the only two things I have knitted so far have been from wendy pampas. The storm comes up beautifully and I love the Heather Moor but, though I am thinking of the shawl for her if she wants to wrap the baby up and it's a boy, the pink might be a bit girly.

I was just wondering if there was something else out there in the same vein as the wendy pampas, but maybe I should stick with that?

Thanks for your help.

Oooh, I like the yosemite stuff

I also really like this but like I said I was interested to see if there was much else out there.
