Trying to sew a jacket...

I'm trying to make this and it's going well but I'm sure I must be missing some proper instructions as the ones here are rubbish! Luckily I'm pretty good and working things out, even if I'm only an "OK" sewer. All those hours of watching the Great British Sewing Bee have paid off here!

I was a pattern cutter/ designer and taught A level textiles.

Those instructions are shit, and she hasn’t poked her corners out properly.

I'm glad you think the instructions are shit. I've looked so many times to see if there are comprehensive ones somewhere that I'm missing.

For example, it just says "attach the collar" but not where and I've no idea where the back yoke goes 😂 . I'm hoping I can work out how to out the zip in.

Im sure I'll work it out (and the jacket is lovely to be fair!).

Have you teased them put with a pin on the right side?🧐😂

I did have several attempts at poking though, trimming more off the corner seam each time.

I only did about 18 months of needlework at school, back when dinosaurs roamed the Earth.

I've had to resort to guessing now, based on how I think a jacket goes together.

I'm so cross!

What bit do you need help with. Those instructions are shite

Luckily I'm fairly good at this sort of thinking. I do need to work out which way up/round the pockets go but I think that will be fairly obvious when I'm not juggling umpteen half attached jacket bits.

I've been using the photos and a similar jacket I own to try and work out the huge missing chunks of instructions. I tried to ask whether these are the only instructions but my comment seems to just vanish 🤷🏻‍♀️

No one else mentions any errors in the pattern or any problems with the instructions!

Still ploughing on with this. I'm now at the point of trying to bag out the fucker which I have been avoiding for weeks.

Hi SoupDragon, wow this looks like an ambitious project! I'm too novice to be able to help, but I use sewalongs to get me out of sticky situations and while it isn't the same exact pattern, maybe this sewalong might be helpful?

I started a stitch and bitch thread to get myself advice and support and we have some experienced sewists there who are so helpful. Plus we'd love to see how you get on

Thank you :) I don't think it would have been ambitious at all had the instructions been anywhere near complete and useful. I'm by no means an expert but I did manage to work most things out through common sense.

I've finally found a video that has successfully shown me how to sew the sleeve hems so they turn properly so that is today's task. Then it's done really as the bottom hem is a piece of cake.

I did know there's a chat thread but I don't really sew much. The last thing I made was a pair of shorts last summer and they were much less problematic 😂

Need to find a use for all the wrong sized zips I ordered now... 🤦🏻‍♀️ The pattern didn't say what size I needed.
