Help with sewing a baby vest for ds

sushistar · 13/02/2008 14:08

So I'm a dressmaking novice, but have experiece at sewing/crafty stuff generally.
I want to make ds some bodysuits / vests, with envelope necks.
FABRIC - I guess a thick cotton jersey? Is that right? Where can I get it from online? I want some funky patterns, but all I've found so far is plains.
TRIM - again, what should that be made from?
POPPERS at the bottom - how do you fix them? The only poppers I've done before are the sew-on kind, do you need a machiene to do the rivet kind? How much does one of them cost? (Not wanting to buy one, just curious!)
PATTERN - anyone know a good one?

Is this ridiculously ambitious?

Thanks!

Here is some spotty jersey

I would say its a bit ambitious unless you have an overlocker.

Not sure what you'd have to trim with - something stretchy

Poppers - you can buy packs where they have the poppers and a little tool in - you just put the poppers in and hit with a hammer

here

pattern?

Thanks guys! Any more suggestions of placees to get fabric? The poppers look great.

if you have some that are a nice fit - you can dissect them to make your own pattern - i don't think it'll be easy without an overlocker though

how about you dye some?

or applique on them . . . . .

for fabric you could buy over sized funky tshirts in primart maybe - clothes in there seem to cost less than it'd cost to buy the materials to make them
