Intarsia cushion

I am knitting an intarsia cushion and have ordered some bobbins to wind the different colours on. Is there a way to calculate how much wool is needed for a certain number of stitches? It's double knit on 4mm needles.

Yes.

The way I do it involves a wee bit of basic maths.

knit 20 stitches in your yarn and on the needles you are going to be using. Unravel and measure the length of yarn used. Dividing this measurement by 20 will give you the amount of yarn you use for each stitch.

Let’s say this number will be y.

Count the number of stitches you will knit for each colour block.

multiply the number of stitches you will knit by y

allow for an additional 5-10% so then multiply by 1.05 or 1.10.

then I add a further 10cm to account for tails to weave in when finished.

hope that makes sense for you.

Thank you @Workerbeep that does make sense! I will get my maths cap on and have a go!
