Handprints.

Frame 'em.

Happy Birthday!

PS Malachy - great name!

ok, realise this is on the arts and crafts thread, so probably you're expecting something a little more novel, but we (at exactly the same age) did hand-prints! Wow! I'm so creative I know.

What I also did was cut out lots of hearts of various sizes, and when I'd wrapped all his presents got dd to stick them onto the wrapping paper aiming for the cheerfully truly random effect.
The hand-print is on the kitchen wall, and the hearts he carefully unstuck and kept (!).

I had tried (and spectacularly failed) a foot cast, and a hand print into plastery stuff.

Handprints on one of those make your own plate/mug sets.

Make a pencil pot for his desk. Could use a pringles pot cut down or a tin can. Cover in material then get your little one to stick things on it.

Another idea I remember one of my dds making for dh one fathers day was a table mat made from a bathroom tile. SHe stuck things on it then it was covered in sticky back plastic. SHe made it about 5 years ago and it's still fine now.
ALso look in the "Yellow moon." catalogue. They have lots of nice present making kits.

My nephew and niece decorated some nice mugs from there for my parents for christmas. I think you need to put them in the oven to seal the ink but they looked great.

i'd say cast a plaster handprint - easy peasy and very effective

or a painted plate from one of those pottery shops - i've asked that my kids can do them for my birthday - i'd like a whole set of side plates!!!!
