Dropped garter stitch! I need help

I need help 😫 I dropped a garter stitch last night and I've tried to fix it today but I keep getting a hole in my fabric. My yarn is dark green so not the easiest to see, I've watched the nibble needles video and I think my dropped stitch was a knit stitch but still I get a hole.

Wonderful knitters of mumsnet, can you help me?

Are you sure you dropped a stitch? It looks to me like you've somehow added a stitch. Is your stitch count right?

Oh my gosh @Yonderashgrove yes I have an extra stitch with the one 'recovered'

If you haven't sorted it already try just dropping the left hand stitch, which looks like the extra one.

Thank you, I dropped it off but I'd stretched the stitches with my fiddling so I've ripped it back and am doing the last few rows again

Yes, a hole like that is most likely an accidental yarn over, which will give you a hole + one extra stitch.
